Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F, and in a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk together, then add this mixture to the flour mixture, stirring gently until just moistened.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a couple of times, then roll it out to about 3/4 inch thickness.
  • Cut the dough into biscuits using a biscuit cutter, cup, or mason jar, and place them on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake the biscuits for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown, then remove from the oven and serve warm.

Notes

Butter or coconut oil can be substituted for shortening.
