Equipment

  • 1 9-inch deep dish pie crust

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup butternut squash puree or 1 can pumpkin
  • 3 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1 cup evaporated milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  • Mix the beaten eggs, sugar, salt, and spices in a large bowl until well combined. Add the butternut squash puree and blend. Gradually pour in the evaporated milk and mix until the filling is smooth.
  • Pour the filling into an uncooked pie crust, distributing it evenly.
  • Bake the pie at 450°F for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for another 60 minutes.
  • Check if the pie is done by inserting a knife into the center of the filling. If it comes out clean, the pie is ready. If not, bake for a few more minutes and check again.
  • Once done, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely at room temperature before slicing or refrigerating. Serve and enjoy your homemade butternut squash pie!

Notes

You can substitute canned pumpkin for the butternut squash in this pie recipe. Pumpkin and butternut squash have similar flavors and textures, making them interchangeable in most recipes. However, butternut squash puree tends to be slightly runnier than canned pumpkin. To account for this difference, you may need to reduce the cooking time by a few minutes.
