- Choose your mount style. Inside mounts look built-in and modern. Outside mounts make windows appear larger.
- Inside-mount width. Measure the window opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Record the smallest width.
- Outside-mount width. Measure the full area you want covered, then add two to three inches on each side for better light control.
- Measure height. Take three vertical measurements—left, center, right—and record the largest number.
- Check frame depth. Ensure the recess is deep enough for brackets, usually around two inches.
- Use a metal tape measure. Cloth or flexible tape stretches and throws off accuracy.
- Write it down. Use the worksheet so you don’t mix up width and height or confuse rooms.
