This rich, buttery garlic bread recipe is the perfect blend of crisp edges and a soft, warm center. It's packed with garlic, herbs, and cheese, making it an irresistible bread recipe for gatherings or weeknight dinners.
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F and position racks in the middle and upper third of the oven.
Make the Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper to your preference.
Prepare the Bread: Slice the loaf horizontally into two long halves. Spread the garlic butter generously on the cut sides of the bread. Reassemble the loaf with the buttered sides facing each other, then wrap it tightly in foil.
Bake: Set the wrapped loaf on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes to warm the bread and melt the butter.
Add Cheese: Take the bread out, unwrap it, and open the halves so the buttered sides face up. Lay them flat on the foil. Evenly sprinkle Parmesan over both halves and add red pepper flakes if desired.
Broil: Switch the oven to broil and move the sheet to the upper rack. Broil for 2–3 minutes, watching carefully until the top is golden and crisp without burning.
Serve: Transfer the bread to a cutting board and slice crosswise into thick pieces. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
You can use either French bread or ciabatta depending on your texture preference—French bread gives a chewier bite, while ciabatta is more airy and rustic.
For an extra cheesy version, try adding shredded mozzarella along with the Parmesan before broiling.
