Mint Julep Cocktail Recipe

This mint julep cocktail is a refreshing bourbon-based drink infused with fresh mint and a touch of sweetness from simple syrup.
Served over crushed ice, it’s a classic Southern favorite with plenty of flavorful variations to try.

Ingredients
  

  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • ¼ ounce simple syrup
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • Garnish: Sprig of mint, lemon or lime slices

Variations

Chocolate Mint Julep

  • Add 1 ounce of white chocolate liqueur to the classic recipe.

Peach Mint Julep

  • Crush fresh peach slices with the mint, then mix in ¾ ounce peach schnapps. Garnish with peach slices and mint.

Blackberry Mint Julep

  • Add 5-6 blackberries to the glass and crush with the mint. Stir in ½ ounce blackberry liqueur.

Ginger Mint Julep

  • Add a small dollop of ginger paste and follow the classic recipe.
  • Garnish: Candied ginger.

Miami Julep

  • Mix in 1 ounce of coconut cream and 1 ounce of banana liqueur. Garnish with coconut flakes and a mint sprig.

Strawberry Mint Julep

  • Muddle 3-4 ripe strawberries with the mint and simple syrup,then follow the classic recipe. Garnish with strawberries and mint.

Green Tea Julep

  • Replace part of the simple syrup with ½ ounce elderflower liqueur and ¼ ounce green tea syrup.

Lemon Mint Julep

  • Add 1 ounce of limoncello liqueur. Garnish with lemon slices and mint leaves.

Instructions
 

  • In a short glass or mug, gently crush the mint leaves into the simple syrup to release their oils.
  • Pour in the bourbon, then pack the glass tightly with crushed ice.
  • Stir to combine. Add additional crushed ice to form a dome on top. Garnish with a mint sprig and serve immediately.
