High-Protein Nutella S’mores French Toast

This high-protein Nutella s’mores French toast is warm, chocolatey, and easy to make with golden French toast pieces, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, and a drizzle of Nutella.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large egg whites
  • ¼ cup milk of choice dairy-free if needed
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sweetener of choice
  • 2 slices bread of choice
  • 1 tablespoon Nutella or chocolate-hazelnut spread
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons mini marshmallows
  • 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon graham cracker crumbs optional
  • Greek yogurt cottage cheese, whipped coconut cream, or dairy-free yogurt, optional for topping

Stovetop Instructions

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg whites, milk, cinnamon, and sweetener.
  • Dip both slices of bread into the mixture, letting each side absorb the liquid.
  • Lightly coat a skillet with cooking spray and warm it over medium heat.
  • Add the soaked bread and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until golden and cooked through.
  • Transfer the French toast to a cutting board and slice it into small pieces. Place the pieces in a bowl.
  • Warm the Nutella for a few seconds until easy to drizzle.
  • Top the warm French toast with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, and the warmed Nutella.
  • Add Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, whipped coconut cream, or dairy-free yogurt if desired. Serve warm.

Microwave Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together the egg whites, milk, cinnamon, and sweetener.
  • Cut the bread into small pieces and stir them into the egg mixture until coated.
  • Lightly grease a microwave-safe mug or bowl. Add the soaked bread pieces.
  • Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the egg mixture is fully cooked through.
  • Warm the Nutella for a few seconds until smooth.
  • Top the warm French toast with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, and Nutella.
  • Add yogurt, cottage cheese, or whipped coconut cream if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

Nutella tip: Warm the Nutella briefly so it drizzles easily. A little goes a long way.
Higher-protein option: Add Greek yogurt, protein yogurt, or cottage cheese on top before adding the s’mores toppings.
Dairy-free option: Use dairy-free milk, dairy-free chocolate chips, dairy-free chocolate-hazelnut spread, and dairy-free yogurt or whipped coconut cream.
Lower-sugar option: Use less Nutella and choose sugar-free chocolate chips or sugar-free marshmallows. Some sugar-free marshmallows may not melt as smoothly.
Meal prep tip: Cook the French toast pieces ahead of time and store them without toppings. Reheat before adding Nutella, marshmallows, chocolate chips, and graham cracker crumbs.
