Instructions
Prepare the Honeydew Mix: Add diced honeydew to a blender and blend until smooth. Let it sit for a few minutes so the foam rises to the top. Use a spoon to skim off the foam. Measure 1½ cups of the liquid for use in your margaritas.
Mix the Base: Return the measured honeydew juice to the blender if needed. Add agave nectar and kosher salt, and blend until everything is well mixed.
Assemble the Margarita:
For Individual Drinks: In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine honeydew mix, tequila, and lime juice. Shake for 30 seconds and pour into your serving glass. Add lime and melon slices as garnish.
For a Pitcher: If your mix is still pulpy, strain it before transferring to a pitcher. Mix in tequila and lime juice. Chill or serve over ice. Stir just before serving and garnish as desired.
Notes
Don’t salt the rims: The salt can overpower the honeydew’s mild sweetness. For sparkle, consider coarse sugar instead.
Simple Syrup Tip: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Let cool and store for up to 3 weeks.
Melon too juicy? Save excess juice for smoothies or second rounds!
Storage: The honeydew mix can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for quick prep.
Next-Level Variations:
Minty Melon Margarita: Add 10 fresh mint leaves to the shaker in Step 3.
Spicy Melon Margarita: Add a thin jalapeño slice to the shaker and garnish with another.
Melon Ice Cubes: Freeze melon balls and use them in place of ice cubes.
Market Swaps:Substitute honeydew with cantaloupe or watermelon. Strain juice if pulpy before mixing.
