Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Whisk
  • Small bowls

Ingredients

Honey-Soy Dressing:

  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 2 teaspoons chili sauce

Sesame Crust:

  • ¼ cup white sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup black sesame seeds

Salmon:

  • 4 6- to 8-ounce skin-on salmon fillets
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil

Instructions

Make the Dressing:

  • Combine the soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of honey, grated ginger, orange zest, and chili sauce in a small bowl. Whisk until well blended, then set aside for later.

Prepare the Sesame Coating:

  • In another bowl, mix together the black and white sesame seeds. Lightly brush the tops of the salmon fillets with egg white, then press the brushed sides into the sesame seed mixture to evenly coat them.

Cook the Salmon:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Place the salmon fillets in the skillet with the sesame seed side facing down. Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes, or until the sesame seeds are aromatic and toasted. If the seeds brown too quickly, reduce the heat.
  • Flip the fillets carefully and cook the other side for another 2 to 3 minutes, until the salmon is crisp and cooked through. In the last minute of cooking, drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of honey over the fillets to add a final touch of sweetness.

Serve:

  • Arrange the cooked salmon on plates and drizzle the honey-soy dressing over the top. Serve immediately while warm, pairing with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add more chili sauce to the dressing.
  • Skinless salmon can be substituted, but keeping the skin helps retain moisture.
  • Pair with steamed rice or sautéed greens for a complete meal.
