Equipment

  • Bread machine with Basic/White program
  • 1½- to 2-pound loaf capacity pan

Ingredients

Basic Version: 1½-Pound Loaf

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • cup dry buttermilk powder
  • tsp kosher salt
  • tsp yeast

Mix-ins:

  • ½ cup chopped pecans

Larger Version: 2-Pound Loaf

  • cups water
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • ½ cup dry buttermilk powder
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • tsp yeast

Mix-ins:

  • ¾ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Add the ingredients to your bread machine’s baking pan in the order listed for your selected loaf size—starting with water and ending with yeast.
  • Place chopped pecans in your machine’s nut dispenser if available. If not, keep them in a bowl nearby.
  • Choose the Basic/White bread cycle setting on your machine.
  • Select the appropriate loaf size (1½ or 2 pounds) and press start.
  • If your machine does not have a nut dispenser, add the pecans manually during the second kneading cycle when the machine beeps.
  • Once the loaf is done, remove it carefully from the bread pan and place it on a wire rack to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For added texture, lightly toast the chopped pecans before adding.
  • Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor.
  • This bread pairs beautifully with both sweet and savory toppings.
