Ingredients
  

Basic Version:

  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter melted
  • 3½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour see note below
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Whole-Wheat Variation:

  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter melted
  • cups white flour plus more as needed
  • 2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions
 

  • Combine Ingredients: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment, add the milk, yeast, honey, eggs, butter, and initial 3½ cups of flour (or specified flour types for the whole-wheat variation) along with the salt. Mix on medium speed until the dough forms and becomes smooth, about 4-5 minutes. If the dough is sticky, gradually add the remaining ½ cup of flour (or more white flour for the whole-wheat version).
  • Rest the Dough: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for about 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Use as Desired: Once risen, the dough is ready to be used in your desired recipe, whether it’s bread loaves, rolls, or other baked creations.

Notes

Flour Measurement Tip: To measure flour accurately, fluff it in its container before scooping it into a measuring cup. Level off the excess with a straight edge.
