Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 pound green beans broken into segments
  • 1 medium sweet potato raw, cut into medium-sized chunks (leave skin on)
  • 3 carrots sliced into about 1” thick rounds
  • 2 boneless chicken breasts with or without skin

Instructions

  • Cut potatoes into small, bite-sized chunks. A mandoline slicer can be used for even sizing.
  • Layer all ingredients in the crockpot in the order listed in the recipe. Do not mix.
  • Set the crockpot to low and cook for approximately 8 hours. Alternatively, cook on high for about 5 hours.
  • Once cooking is complete, open the crockpot and stir the contents, breaking the chicken into small pieces. The ingredients should be soft and tender.
  • Allow the homemade dog food to cool to room temperature before serving.
  • Serve the desired portion to your dog. Store any unused portion in the refrigerator. The homemade dog food will stay in the fridge for up to three days.

Notes

  • Using pre-cooked chicken and rice can help reduce cooking time in a hurry.
  • Boiling chicken breasts in advance, such as every Sunday, ensures they're always ready for use in your dog's food and training games.
  • If your dog has a chicken allergy, you can substitute the protein with other meats, such as beef cubes, turkey, or lamb.
  • For dogs with rice intolerance, you can replace rice with alternative grains, including quinoa, millet, or whole-grain oats.
