  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter softened
  • 4 slices of your favorite bread sourdough recommended
  • 1 large ripe avocado
  • ½ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • Flaky sea salt
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  • Everything-but-the-bagel seasoning

  • Extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions
 

  • Toast the Bread: Spread a thin layer of softened butter on both sides of each bread slice. Heat a medium skillet over medium heat, then toast the bread for 1–2 minutes on each side until it is crisp and golden brown.
  • Prepare the Avocado: Cut the avocado in half lengthwise and remove the pit. Scoop the flesh into a medium bowl. Add the lemon juice, sea salt, and black pepper, and mash the mixture with a fork until it reaches your preferred consistency—either smooth or chunky.
  • Assemble the Toast: Spread the mashed avocado mixture evenly over the toasted bread slices.
  • Finish with Garnishes: Add your choice of garnishes to the top of each piece of toast. For extra flavor, try flaky sea salt, crushed red pepper flakes, fresh herbs, or a drizzle of olive oil.

Variations:

  • The Classic: Sprinkle flaky sea salt and crushed red pepper flakes on top, then finish with a drizzle of olive oil.
  • The Fancy: Instead of mashing the avocado, thinly slice it and fan the slices across the toast. Sprinkle everything-but-the-bagel seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil for an elevated touch.
