This classic hummingbird bread machine recipe brings together the signature Southern blend of bananas, pineapple, pecans, and warm spices in a moist, sweet loaf.
Add Ingredients to Bread Pan: Add ingredients to your bread machine’s baking pan in the listed order, starting with buttermilk and ending with yeast. Do not add mix-ins yet.
Select Bread Setting: Choose the Basic/White setting on your bread machine. Select loaf size (1½-pound or 2-pound) and press Start.
Add Mix-ins at Beep: When the machine signals the mix-in cycle (typically after the first knead), add the chopped candied pineapple and pecans. If your machine doesn’t signal, add them manually during the second knead.
Cool Bread: After baking is complete, remove bread from pan and transfer to a wire rack over parchment. Let cool slightly.
Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk cream cheese and powdered sugar. Gradually add milk, 1 tsp at a time, until desired thickness is reached.
Decorate: Spread or pipe glaze over cooled bread. Top with additional chopped pecans if desired.
Notes
For a pipeable glaze, use less milk. For a drizzle, use more.
Double the glaze and serve it on the side with a knife for guest self-service.
Great make-ahead option for Mother's Day, showers, or springtime gatherings.
