Ingredients

  • 1 sleeve of Ritz crackers approximately 16 crackers
  • 1/2 cup butter 1 stick
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Optional toppings: candy of your choice e.g., crushed peppermint, M&Ms, nuts, sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and line an 8x8 baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Arrange the Ritz crackers in a single layer across the bottom of the pan. Don’t worry about perfection—just fit them in as best you can.
  • Combine the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Let it boil for exactly 3 minutes without stirring.
  • Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, using a spatula to spread it out. Bake for 5 minutes to allow the caramel to thicken and set.
  • Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top. Return it to the oven for about 2 minutes or until the chocolate softens enough to spread.
  • Using a spatula, spread the melted chocolate into an even layer. Add your favorite toppings, such as crushed peppermint, nuts, or sprinkles if desired.
  • Allow the dessert to cool completely for several hours before removing it from the pan and breaking it into pieces. For faster cooling, place it in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Saltine crackers can be substituted for Ritz crackers if preferred.
