Equipment

  • Baking sheets
  • Large mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch lacinato kale rinsed, thoroughly dried, and stems removed
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Optional Flavor Variations:

  • Red pepper flakes
  • Chili powder and lime juice
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven: Set the oven temperature to 350°F to ensure it's ready when you're done preparing the kale.
  • Prepare the kale leaves: Tear or cut the kale into pieces about 2 inches in size. Place the pieces in a large bowl, ensuring all the stems have been removed.
  • Season the kale: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sprinkle the sea salt over the kale. Use your hands to gently massage the oil and salt into the leaves until they are evenly coated. If needed, add up to 1 more tablespoon of oil to fully coat the leaves.
  • Spread the kale on baking sheets: Arrange the seasoned kale pieces in a single layer on two baking sheets, making sure there's at least 1 inch of space between each piece to allow for proper crisping.
  • Bake the kale chips: Place the baking sheets in the oven and bake for 8 minutes. Remove them from the oven and give the leaves a toss to promote even cooking. Return them to the oven and bake for an additional 6 to 8 minutes, or until the leaves are crispy and slightly browned.
  • Cool and store: Let the kale chips cool completely before storing them. Keep the chips in an airtight container at room temperature, where they will stay fresh for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • For added anti-inflammatory benefits, consider adding turmeric powder to the seasoning mix.
  • Ensure the kale is completely dry before baking to achieve maximum crispiness.
  • Experiment with seasoning combinations to create unique flavors that suit your preferences.
